Spent a month THERE one night...

I have to see ignorant, idiotic, and often offensive posts from people who I otherwise liked and respected.  And then I have to sit there and think, “My gosh, do I have any feasible reason to stay friends with this person?”  I actually had a total stranger call me a “loser” and a terrible person who had accomplished nothing in life and had made no significant impact in the world. 

Why?  Because I told her daughter or cousin or niece or whatever that I don’t like Tebow because he’s an inconsistent player, his fans are sacrilegious, he touts his faith in a way that seems absolutely ridiculous in the context of football (it offends me), and FINALLY, because he did that Super Bowl ad against abortion.  My point of all that being that, while I like football and have been a Broncos fan all my life, my rights as a woman and freedom of religion are much more important to me.

So really?  This woman who knows absolutely nothing about me had the nerve to say that I don’t know what religion is and have never accomplished anything and am jealous of Tebow?

I could have ripped that ignorant bitch a new one.  I could have told her that beyond helping raise my 3 siblings and playing therapist for the entire family through a very difficult divorce, I pulled myself out of suicidal depression to get a master’s degree and teach university courses in the process.  I could have told her that, despite living below the poverty line in my adulthood up until last year, I try to donate money to charity whenever I can.  I give homeless people change and food when I can.  But that’s kind of the point, isn’t it?  I don’t need recognition for those things.

And I sure as hell don’t need to justify my self-worth or my quality as a person to some ignorant, sad individual on facebook who I don’t know, and who sure as hell doesn’t know me.

So I deleted and blocked the girl I did know.  She was more of an acquaintance, honestly.  And who needs to take that?  Not I.
